Sometimes, between waking and sleeping a dream image appears. Sometimes, a powerful feeling rises up and pushes out of me. Like Persephone, I have been tugged into the underworld. Like Daphne, I've run from the rational.

With clay and my hands, I work to put the deepest feelings of my heart into a form that can be seen and felt.

Each pot begins as a lump of porcelain clay, which is thrown on the wheel.  The pot is then softened with a damp cloth,  so I can I shape the figures by pushing the wall of the pot in and out.  Details- hands, feet, faces - are hand built and smoothed on.

After the pot becomes bone-dry, I carefully smooth it in a four-step process.  The pot is covered with layers of terra sigillata and burnished with a cloth between each layer.  Some are stone-burnished.  Next the pot is bisque-fired to 1000C.

The pots are layered in an outdoor pit with sawdust and leaves, which burn around them over 36 hours or so.  Factors in the final pattern and color on the pot's surface include the wind, the humidity of the air or sawdust, and luck.
